ย
Nicole Theberge received the Star of Tomorrow award at a conference held by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) in Indianapolis on Nov. 2. Each year, SHPE presents this award to a gifted young engineer with three to seven years of experience in his or her field who exhibits a strong commitment to excellence and the potential to excel, according to the organizationโs description.
โNicole seizes opportunities and consistently produces positive outcomes,โ said Andy Guy, PMA-242 Assistant Program Manager for Engineering, who received the call from SHPE and informed Theberge of her win. โWhen we need someone to step up to the plate, she does so without hesitation.ย Nicole deserves formal recognition for her many efforts and contributions made on behalf of the AARGM program.โ
According to SHPEโs website, the organizationโs mission is to expose the Hispanic community to fields of study and careers in science, technology, engineering and math. SHPE runs school programs for both students and parents, recognizing the integral role parents have in their childrenโs scholastic success. Theberge said her position as a SHPE award winner will allow her more opportunities for volunteerism and mentoring in the community.
The award application packet is extensive, including letters from employers, certificates and awards earned at work and an updated rรฉsumรฉ. Some of Thebergeโs letters came from co-workers.
โItโs a bit overwhelming and surprising,โ Theberge said. โIโm very honored by my co-workers who helped nominate me. There were a lot of letters.โ
