VIENNA, Va. โ Navy Federal Credit Union will welcome members and neighbors across the country to its Navy SHRED-eral event Saturday, October 17. The 72 participating Navy Federal locations are spread over 22 states.
More than 17.5 million Americans were the victims of identity theft in 2014 according to the U.S. Department of Justiceโs Bureau of Justice Statistics. Navy Federal is offering its members and neighbors this opportunity to safely dispose of important documents as a way to help prevent sensitive information from getting into the wrong hands.
Event attendees at participating Navy Federal branches are encouraged to bring their personal documents to be shred on-site, free of charge. Navy Federal is inviting participants to bring up to four 12โ x 24โ boxes of paper and documents, but the credit union advises that CDs and other hard substances will not be accepted.
Having seen an increase in attendee participation over the years, Navy Federal expects well over 50 tons of paper and documents to be processed during the event.
The event will take place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., local time. For a full list of participating branches in your area, please visit: navyfederal.org/shred.
