On August 3,ย  the St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office will once again partner with Maryland State Police and local communities to participate and support National Night Out.ย

Over 36 million people in 14,625 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide participated in 2009โ€™s National Night Out. National Night Out 2010 is expected to be the largest ever and once again this year, Target is a national corporate sponsor.

National Night Out, a year-long community building campaign, is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Along with the traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, most cities and towns celebrate National Night Out with a variety of special neighborhood events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, festivals, visits from local officials and law enforcement, safety fairs, and youth events.

Sheriff Timothy K. Cameron would like to invite all communities to join local law enforcement and participate in this important event.ย  Registration is free.ย  For further information or communities interested in registering to participate in National Night Out should contact Corporal Chad Hartzell (301) 475-4200 ext. 9024 no later than July 16, 2010.
