On August 3, neighborhoods across the nation celebrated the twenty-seventh Annual National Night Out. The event is a unique crime and drug prevention affair sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.
Locally, events were held in over 65 neighborhoods spread across Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s Counties. Citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from many neighborhoods across Southern Maryland came together for an evening of fun.
The annual event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and create support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; It is hoped that the effort will bolster neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, which in turn will send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
