The Department of Aging has selected FitzVogt and Associates as the new caterer for the nutritional programs in the county, starting Monday, Aug. 18.

F and G will be responsible for serving approximately 170 luncheons daily at the countyโ€™s five senior centers and 120 for the Meals on Wheels program.ย  The caterer replaces a vendor that had been working with the county for 10 years. Catering contracts are sent out for bid and are awarded for one year with a two-year option.ย

โ€œIt’s time for a change,โ€ said Alice Allen, manager of Senior Center Operations.ย  We are looking to improve the quality of our food service, so more people will dine with us.โ€™ย

A nutritionist plans all meals provided through the county on a monthly basis.ย  Funds for meals are provided through the federal Nutrition Services Incentive Program and from the Maryland and St. Maryโ€™s County departments of aging.ย

Federal funding to the county is a percentage calculated by comparing the total number of meals served in the county to those served throughout the state.
