On July 21, 2010 at 5:24 p.m. a lookout was given by the Calvert Control Center for a vehicle in which the driver reportedly was involved in an argument and assault at his residence in Chesapeake Beach.

Calvert County DFC A. Woodford observed the vehicle on Md. Rt. 261 in the area of the residence.ย  DFC Woodford attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle but the driver immediately accelerated, crossing the yellow lines and passing vehicles at speeds greater than 90 mph while traveling north on Rt. 261 near Summer City Blvd.ย  The vehicle continued traveling in the southbound lanes while heading north, passing several vehicles.ย  The suspect lost control of the vehicle while approaching the traffic light at Mears Avenue striking a large wooden sign until he reentered the northbound lanes of Rt. 261.ย  The rear bumper of the vehicle, which had been damaged, flew off and over the patrol vehicle.ย  The suspect vehicle continued driving in excessive speeds, forcing several vehicles off the roadway and failing to stop at stop signs.ย  The vehicle continued at speeds of 80 to 90 mph through Chesapeake Beach and into North Beach. The suspect driver then slammed on his brakes at Myrtle Ave and Walnut Ave, causing the vehicle to spin around and face the patrol vehicle.ย  The suspect driver then accelerated and struck the patrol vehicle.ย  The suspect fled from the vehicle on foot.ย 

Although slightly injured, DFC Woodford gave chase on foot and apprehended the suspect, assisted by Sgt. R. Naughton.ย  DFC Woodford was treated on the scene by EMS.ย 

The suspect, identified as Kyle William Lesueur, 19 of Chesapeake Beach, was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, 2nd degree assault and possession of a controlled dangerous substance, a schedule IV drug, Klonopin. Lesueur was issued numerous traffic citations that included eluding a police officer, negligent driving, reckless driving, aggressive driving and speeding.ย 

The chase ended in Anne Arundel County and an additional charge will be filed in that jurisdiction on Lesueur for First-degree assault on a police officer.
