Today, July 5, Baltimore Police officer Lt. Brian Rice chose — during his pretrial hearing this morning — to be tried on charges of the death of Freddie Gray by a judge rather than by a jury of his peers, according to the Associated Press.
The judge will be the same judge who acquitted two other police officers charged in the young man’s death.
Rice is the highest-ranking police officer to be tried in the case.
