Patuxent Naval Air Station officials have released the name of the man who was found dead at the baseโs drill hall early Thursday morning.
Matthew Fritz, 28, was found dead at the bottom of a swimming pool at about 5 a.m. when a worker arrived to open the building for the day.
There were no immediate signs of foul play, base spokesman John Romer confirmed, and the man was wearing a swim suit.
Fritz was member of the Patuxent River Naval Air Station military police force.
He worked for the Patuxent River Master at Arms Team, a military police force, and apparently had clearance to be inside the building. He was the rank on MA3, the equivalent of a Petty Officer third-class. Fritzโs hometown was Carmel, Ind, north of Indianapolis. He was working toward becoming an officer.
Romer said no further information is available as the Naval Criminal Investigative Service based out of Washington is continuing to investigate the incident. The body is undergoing an autopsy at Armed Forces Institute of Pathology.
He would have turned 29 in July.
