Governor Martin O’Malley will be the keynote speaker during the 10th Annual Economic Summit on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at the Greater Waldorf Jaycees Community Center. ย Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown will also attend.ย According to the Charles County Commissioners, Governor O’Malley plans to address Charles County’s prosperity, its role in our regional economy, and ways his administration can help the county grow.ย
The Summitโs theme, “Building a Foundation for Progress,” focuses on the County’s progress regarding the economy, infrastructure, the defense industry, partnerships, and the overall quality of life in Charles County and Southern Maryland.ย Participants can attend presentations on those issues from representatives of the public and private sectors. ย Again this year, electronic voting will allow the audience to weigh-in on related topics.
Other featured guest speakers include Economist, Anirban Basu, and Baseball Hall of Famer, Brooks Robinson.
Basu is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sage Policy Group, Inc., a Baltimore based economic and policy consulting firm. ย He is one of the Mid-Atlantic region’s leading economic consultants and will analyze Charles County’s economic outlook.ย ย
Brooks Robinson, an investor with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs baseball team, will discuss the impact of the new County stadium and entertainment complex as a quality of life asset for the community. ย Known as the “Human Vacuum Cleaner” during his playing days with the Baltimore Orioles, Robinson established a standard of excellence for modern-day third basemen.ย ย
