LEONARDTOWN, Md. — We are receiving reports this morning of a serious motor vehicle crash that is sending one person to a nearby trauma center.
At approximately 9:52 a.m. on November 14, first responders were called to the scene in the 22000 block of Newtowne Neck Road, in the area of Bull Road for reports that a single vehicle had gone off the road and struck a tree.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office put out an alert soon after the crash happened, saying that the road was closed due to a crash.
Upon arrival, crews discovered the single vehicle off the road which had struck a tree, as well as the single occupant who had sustained life-threatening injuries.
EMS advised that a helicopter from the Maryland State Police Aviation was needed to transport the patient to a nearby trauma center for their injuries.ย

The helicopter would arrive soon after, landing just off of Wathen Road to make the transport. The patient was still considered to be in critical condition prior to being flown out.
The road is expected to remain closed for an extended period of time while the accident remains under investigation.

This is a developing story. We will continue to provide updates as they come available.ย
