A Lexington Park man, John Dixon (who has still not officially been identified as such by the Navy), continues to be missing since his disappearance on Friday.

Around 11 p.m. on Friday December 1, Dixon went to check on his boat, in the area known as the West Basin, at Patuxent River naval base, and never returned.

The following morning, the manโ€™s boat was found secured, and his car in the nearby parking lot with his keys still in it, Lt. Commander Ed Zeigler told The Bay Net.

On Tuesday Zeigler told The Bay Net the search for the missing man had been called off, yet boats and teams have been out in the area every day since the disappearance. When questioned as to why the search would be called off – at a time when recreational and commercial boats are not on the waters –ย and asked if the Navy believed the man was not in the area, Zeigler told The Bay Net, โ€œI may have misspoken earlier. We are out looking for him every day.โ€ ย

A week from the disappearance the Navy had no further information, at least none that they were willing to share with the public.

The Coast Guard based in St. Inigoes, who have reportedly been assisting with the search, could not comment or confirm they were looking for a missing man, saying only โ€œitโ€ was a Navy investigation.

One expert on the local waters suggests that if someone was in the water their body could be expected to surface in the next day. Due to the recent cold weather, it would take 7 or 8 days for the body to be found. In warmer weather it would take an estimated 3 days, according to the source.
