Prince Frederick, MD โ€“ To paraphrase a familiar law enforcement expression, โ€œthereโ€™s a new chairman in town.โ€ One week and one day following a highly successful campaign, the Calvert County Republican Central Committee (CCRCC) has selected new leadership. After the nine-member panel elected by the countyโ€™s registered Republicans was sworn in four committee officers were selected.

Gregory W. Ostrander, a Baltimore City police officer and Chesapeake Beach resident, was selected as the chairman of the central committee. Ostrander succeeds Ella Ennis, who guided the local party through the current election. Other officers selected are: Sarah Rosier, vice chair; Ben Krause, secretary; and Carolyn Rice, treasurer.

The other four members of the CCRCC are: former chairman Frank McCabe, Robert Reed, David Weigel and Mike Blasey.

The nine CCRCC were sworn in at the start of the Wednesday, Nov. 12 meeting by Calvert Clerk of the Circuit Court Kathy Smith.

In his role as chairman pro tem prior to the election of officers, McCabe noted the resounding success of the 2014 campaign statewide, in two of Southern Marylandโ€™s three counties and in Calvert County. Three incumbent Republicansโ€”Pat Nutter, Evan Slaughenhoupt and Steve Weemsโ€”were reelected as county commissioners, while two Republicansโ€”Mike Hart and Thomas C. Hejlโ€”were elected to fill the other two seats. McCabe noted that there are plans in the works to honor the two outgoing commissioners, Republicans Susan Shaw and Jerry Clark.

In assuming the chairmanship, Ostrander thanked both Ellis and McCabe for their leadership.
