
Waldorf, MD – The ย Southern Maryland Blue Crabs gave up two early runs in the last game of the series against the Patriots on Wednesday evening and fell to Somerset by the final of 5-4. Starting pitcher Gaby Hernandez allowed two runs on four straight hits, but DโArby Myers answered in the bottom of the frame with a solo shot to left to make the score 2-1.
In the bottom of the third, Eric Garcia reached first on a walk and scored to tie the game after a single by Bryant Nelson, a sacrifice bunt by Dโarby Myers and a sacrifice fly Jamar Walton.
The Patriots took the lead again in the fifth after shortstop Mycal Jones and and left fielder Aharon Eggleston hit a triple and a double respectively. The Blue Crabs evened the score at four after back-to-back singles by Connor David and Eric Garcia and a pair of sacrifice hits later in the lineup.
Trayvon Robinson hit a home run in the sixth to make the score 5-4 and give the Patriots their third lead of the game. Gaby Hernandez exited the game later in the inning after hitting Patriots catcher Yovan Gonzalez with a pitch. Hernandez went five and one-third innings, giving up 11 hits, five earned runs, and striking out six.
Angel Flores led off the bottom of the ninth with a double to center field, but was picked off at second base for the first out of the inning. Jon Dziomba struck out and Ryde Rodriguez flew out to right to end the ballgame.ย Southern Maryland has now lost seven straight games to Somerset and 10 of their last 11 to Liberty Division opponents.
The Blue Crabs will face the Long Island Ducks in a four-game series beginning tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Regency Furniture Stadium.
