Mechanicsville, MD – Feb. 8th., Join Patuxent Habitat for Humanity on April 1st, 2017 at John V. Baggett Park, Mechanicsville, Maryland for the Warrior 5K Fun Run/Walk. Proceeds from the Warrior 5K Fun Run/Walk will directly benefit Patuxent Habitat’s Veteran Critical Home Repair Program. The program is designed to repair homes for military veterans and their families. The program will assist with repairs identified in Habitat’s Critical Home Repair guidelines that may vary from roof repair and structural wall repairs to installing wheel chair ramps and remodeling bathrooms to be easily used by veterans with disabilities. The program helps veterans age in place with the respect they deserve.
In 2015 and 2016 Patuxent Habitat’s Veteran Critical Home Repair program helped seven veterans and their families. One example, is a veteran who had a tree fall on his roof leaving him with damage to his dwelling, his well and gas stove. Through our volunteers and partnerships with Christmas in April St. Mary’s, and various local contractors; our veteran was able to have running water and hot meals this winter under a secure roof.
Patuxent Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International and works to provide affordable housing in partnership with those in need in St. Mary’s and Calvert counties.
