
Prince Frederick, MD – The Calvert Countyย Sheriff’s Office and the Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the intersection of Maryland Route 4 and Dares Beach Road for a reported motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian struck, at approximately 7:03 a.m. this morning.
Upon arrival units found a female lying in the middle of the road who was unresponsive.
Trista John Smith, 50, of Saint Leonard, was driving a gray 2011 Nissan Altima traveling north on Route 4 and was proceeding with a green light through the intersection when pedestrian, Veronica Disney, 54, Chesapeake Beach, continued to attempt to cross route 4 from the east side of Dare Beach Road towards the Safeway.
A witness reported that Disney continued talking on her cell phone and was not paying attention to traffic.
The police report reads in part that the witness said an attempt to stop Disney was made but she continued to walk into traffic apparently unaware of the danger.
Disney was transported to Prince Georges Hospital Shock Trauma unit with severe injuries.
