On Oct. 22ย atย 10:28 p.m., police, fire and rescue personnel responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that occurred on the access road to Maryland International Raceway in Mechanicsville.ย  Trooper Mersman of the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack was the first police officer on scene and he conducted the preliminary investigation.

It was determined that vehicle #1 was traveling northbound on the access road headed towards Budds Creek Road.ย  A male pedestrian, later identified as Richard Arland Jackson, 20 of Bowie, Md., was standing on the access road.ย  Vehicle #1 was traveling at high rate and struck Mr. Jackson.

Mr. Jackson was transported to St. Maryโ€™s Hospital in Leonardtown,ย via ambulance where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The operator of vehicle #1, Jarron Alonzo Jennings of Glenn Dale, Maryland was uninjured.

Mr. Jacksonโ€™s family was located in Bowie, Maryland and notified of the accident in the early morning hours on Oct. 23.

The collision is still under investigation.
