Lusby, MD – On Jan.15 at 2:02 p.m., deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, including members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Team, responded to the intersection of Route 765 (H.G. Trueman Road) and Calvert Cliffs State Park in Lusby in reference to a motor vehicle crash involving a deputy.

The initial investigation revealed that Dfc. Galen Gott was operating his agency-issued marked black and white cruiser, a 2013 Chevy Caprice, southbound on Route 765 at Calvert Cliffs State Park when a black 2013 Nissan Versa, operated by Theresa Monet Emerson, 19 of Lusby, failed to yield the right-of-way to the sheriff’s cruiser upon making a left turn onto the Calvert Cliffs State Park Access Road to MD Route 4.ย

As a result, both vehicles collided in the southbound lane of Route 765 in a head-on, offset collision.ย  The sheriff’s cruiser left the area of impact in a southwest direction and came to rest on the southwest corner of the intersection. The Nissan Versa left the area of impact in a northeast direction, spinning one time in a counterclockwise direction. The vehicle continued off the roadway and struck a wooden split-rail fence to the entrance of the State Park.

Gott was using his seatbelt correctly and the airbags of the Chevy Caprice deployed. Gott sustained minor injuries to his right knee and lower leg. Gott was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital by the Shift Supervisor, Sgt. J. Hollinger, where he was treated for the minor injuries and later released.

Emerson was also wearing her seatbelt correctly and the airbags of the Nissan Versa deployed. Emerson was treated on the scene by Solomons EMS for minor injuries and refused to be transported to CMH for further treatment.

A records check on Emerson revealed that her driver’s license was suspended for provisional violations. Emerson was charged with failure to yield the right-of-way upon making a left turn and driving on a suspended license. Emerson was released on the scene.

Corporal Anthony C. Moschetto of the Calvert County Crash Team is continuing the investigation.
