Units from Lexington Park, Hollywood and the Bay District responded to an accident involving three vehicles on southbound state Route 235, just north of Old Rolling Road across from the Best Buy in California.
A dark-colored Ford Expedition with six passengers and a blue Mazda Protégé, carrying two, were stopped at a traffic light when a white Chrysler Sebring apparently struck the Protégé from behind.
The passenger’s airbag deployed in the Sebring. The driver’s airbag appeared to have torn at impact, failing to properly inflate.
Two people in the Sebring and one from the Protégé were taken from the scene by ambulance. Two people were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital. The other was flown to Prince George’s Trauma Center. It is unclear which injured person was air-evacuated.
The state plans to conduct further investigation.
