At 9:05 p.m. June 14, Charles County Sheriffโs Officer C. Clevenger attempted to conduct a traffic stop on an SUV he observed on Glen Albin Road in La Plata.
The vehicle failed to stop and drove to the end of Patuxent Road, where the driver exited the car and fled on foot. As the driver exited his vehicle, his door struck Officer Clevengerโs patrol vehicle, causing damage to the front right side.
Officer Clevenger chased the suspect on foot for several hundred yards and attempted to take him into custody. In order to gain control of the situation and the suspect, Officer Clevenger deployed his taser following the foot chase, immediately immobilizing the suspect, Robert Mitchell Dorsey, 32, of no fixed address.
A subsequent search of Dorseyโs vehicle revealed he was distributing cocaine, police say.
Further investigation revealed Dorsey was wanted for failure to appear in Circuit Court for a previous drug charge. Dorsey was charged with second-degree assault to a law enforcement officer, destruction of property valued at more than $500 and resisting arrest. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
