Washington Dc. — At approximately 11:30am. on Sunday Dec. 25, officers from the Fifth District were called to the 3200 block of Walnut Street. Northeast for a domestic related disturbance. Upon their arrival, officers encountered an adult male subject armed with a knife. The subject ignored officer’s verbal commands directing him to drop the weapon and at least one officer discharged their service weapon, striking the subject. The suspect’s weapon was recovered on the scene.

The subject was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, and was later pronounced dead. The officer involved in the incident has been placed on administrative leave.

The decedent has been identified as 29-year old Gerald Hall of Northeast, DC.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department Internal Affairs Bureau responded to the scene and will be responsible for the investigation. Officers involved in the incident were equipped with body worn cameras and all footage will be reviewed as part of the investigation.
