Charles County Department of Health is seeking a good Samaritan who delivered an injured raccoon to the Southern Maryland Veterinary Clinic in Charles County on February 4, 2012. The raccoon died and was sent for rabies testing. The raccoon tested positive for rabies. If you are the individual who dropped it off or if you know that person, please contact the Charles County Department of Health immediately at 301-609-6752 during business hours or after hours 240-299-8597 to discuss possible exposure. Rabies is a disease that attacks the nervous system and is almost always fatal once symptoms appear. It is critical that an individual(s) who may have had an exposure, such as a bite, scratch or other contact to a rabid animal seek immediate medical attention.
