The United States and Maryland flags are at half-staff as a mark of respect for the victims of the attack on police officers perpetrated on Sunday, July 17, 2016, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, by the authority vested in the President of the United States, President Barack Obama hereby orders that the flag of the United States shall continue to be flown at half-staff until sunset, Friday, July 22, 2016. As a matter of protocol, the Maryland flag is lowered to half-staff as well, no flag may be higher than the United States flag.
