Calvert County is celebratingโBuy Local Agriculture Weekโ this week by stressing the benefits of buying local products from area farms, and produce stands on the courthouse lawn are making it easy to participate. The stands are operating Monday, Wednesday and Friday, July 23, 25 and 27. This is not the only opportunity to buy local in the county, though.
The stateโs Buy Local Challenge is happening July 21-29 and for that campaign, residents are being asked to eat one thing from a local farm every day. Visit www.buy-local-challenge.com for more information on the Maryland initiative.
Throughout the summer, residents can shop at a number of farmers markets in the county:
- On Tuesdays from 3 to 7 p.m., a farmers market is open in the parking lot of Calvert Memorial Hospital.
- On Thursdays from 4 to 8 p.m., a farmers market is offered on the Solomons Riverwalk.
- On Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m., the Town of North Beach offers the Friday Night Farmers Market and Classic Car Cruise-In.
- On Saturdays, residents can find a farmers market from 7:30 a.m. to noon at the Calvert County Fairgrounds.
