Public invited to Flag Day event on June 14

Event to take place rain or shine

The Board of County Commissioners for St. Mary’s County and the Leonardtown Commissioners will co-sponsor Flag Day 2013 festivities on Friday, June 14, on the Governmental Center Lawn in Leonardtown.  In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Leonard Hall Recreation Center, adjacent to the Governmental Center.

The annual event begins at 6:00 p.m. with musical entertainment. The ceremony starts at 6:45 p.m. As part of this year’s ceremony St. Mary’s County will officially raise the POW-MIA flag on the county flagpole. There will be a Pause for the Pledge of Allegiance at 7:00 p.m. 

The Seventh District Optimist Club will provide refreshments. Free hand-held American Flags will be distributed to everyone in attendance and members of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary St. Mary’s Unit 26 will provide brochures on proper flag etiquette.
