Public Safety Officers Graduate from Basic Academy Class

Six public safety officers at St. Mary’s College of Maryland graduated on July 15 from the Anne Arundel County Community College Basic Academy Class for Public Safety Officers. The week-long training program is a new standard component of officer preparedness for St. Mary’s College. David Zylak, interim director of public safety said, “In the past, officers have been sent to various locations for the basic academy class training, some even out of state.  By sending everyone to Anne Arundel, the training is pertinent to Maryland law and how incidents are handled at other Maryland campuses. All the officers are getting the same information and the same training curriculum. “

St. Mary’s College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary’s River in Southern Maryland.
