Port Tobacco, MD – The Historic Preservation Commission will hold a presentation that is open to the public on the Pomonkey Commercial Historic District during their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Courthouse in the Historic Village of Port Tobacco (8430 Commerce St., Port Tobacco, Maryland).
Established in the late 19th century, the Pomonkey Commercial Historic District has functioned as a commercial, educational, social, and religious center in the community for over 100 years.ย The Ottery Group, a consultant working with the Charles County Department of Planning and Growth Management, has completed a study of the Pomonkey Commercial Historic District located near Bryans Road, Maryland. The Ottery Groupโs research involved interviews with several community members, fieldwork, and archival searches.ย Their research resulted in a Maryland Inventory of Historic Properties historic district submission.
