The quarterly highway safety meeting is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the State Highway Administration Building in Loveville off of Route 5 just north of Leonardtown.

Interactive discussion will include occupant protection and impaired driving. Tree tags are available for use at Christmas Tree sales locations are reminders to everyone to drive sober.ย  Anyone who is working with a group with tree sales are encouraged to tag some tags to place on the trees.ย  Mechanicsville Optimist are picking theirs up on Friday and tags will be dropped at the Center of Life Enrichment.

This meeting is a community meeting.ย  Discussion will include issues around schools, speeding in communities and more.ย  I invite anyone, everyone to suggest items for discussion.ย  If you cannot think of anything at this time, there is time for open discussion at the meeting.

ย The holiday season is upon us, the daylight hours are shorter, tempers flair, weather changes are coming, everyone is in a hurry, and there are many parties and events to attend.ย  Many of these factors and others lead to an increase the number of crashes, injuries and the possibility of fatalities.ย  Together we will work to come up with new and innovative means to address issues and to find ways to support enforcement.

If you know of any other interested community members, please encourage their attendance as well.

As a final note, lunch is provided. I hope this we entice everyone.ย  I am sure each of you will enjoy the meal and the opportunity to meet and network with others who are interested in the safety for everyone on our roadways.
