After winning the Southern Maryland Holiday Basketball Tournament last week, the Chopticon Lady Braves came into the game ready to do battle with a physically bigger and stronger McDonough Lady Rams team. McDonough used their size in the paint to knock off Chopticon 47-43.
The Braves scored first but, McDonough took charge early running off the next 12 consecutive points and led 15-7 at the end of the first quarter. Chopticon cut the lead to three at halftime but, McDonough went on another run with 13 straight points led by Tyler Smith (18 points) and Quandria Dyson (10 points). The Lady Braves fought back and cut the lead to two with 55 seconds remaining in the game but, with three players that had fouled out,were unable to convert down the stretch.
Chopticon was led in scoring by Ashya Short’s 12 points and great hustle by Kirsten Norris. (10 points)
Baynet Radio will broadcast the next game on Friday, Jan.7 when St. Mary’s County rivalries, Leonardtown goes to Chopticon. Game time starts at 7 p.m. pre-game will be approximately 6:45 p.m.
