The 24th Budds Creek National will roar into Potomac MX Park on Saturday, June 22 beginninbg at 1 p.m. The Red Bull Budds Creek National is round five of the 12-race Lucas Motor Oil Pro Motocross Championship. The race is sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, Former champs Ryan Dungey (2010 and 2012), Ryan Villopoto (2011), Chad Reed (2009) and James Stewart (2008) are all scheduled to compete on Saturday. Former Washington Rredskins coach Joe Gibbsโ€™ son Coy owns the JGRMX team that will also compete.

A media day was held at the track on Thursday and the Bay Net talked to three local racers who will compete: Nick Lane of Great Mills, Tony Archer of Waldorf and Kenny Day of Mechanicsville:

Q. (Hilary Bell): What is your racing number?

A. (Lane) 134

Q: How do you prepare for each race; how much time goes into preparing for the race?

A: More than a full time jobโ€ฆ.at least 30 hours riding and when Iโ€™m not doing that I work out by either Cycling, swimming, rowing or running.

Q: Who would you say your biggest competitor is?

A: Honestly, everyone but the track is a challenge all in itself.โ€

Q: What race do you run?

A: The 450.

Q: What injuries have you incurred while riding?

A: Broken collar bone, both wrist and several concussions.
