An electrical malfunction sparked a fire that heavily damaged a home on Cassell Boulevard in Prince Frederick late Tuesday evening, Jan. 28, state officials reported.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, the one-alarm blaze was initially reported at 11:15 p.m. Over 50 volunteer firefighters from Prince Frederick, Huntingtown, St. Leonard, Benedict and North Beach were dispatched to the scene and had the flames under control in 20 minutes.

There were no injuries reported.

Investigator Dfm. Don Brenneman stated the accidental fire started in an electrical panel located in the houseโ€™s garage. Damage to the two-story, single family home was estimated to be $150,000.

โ€œThe occupants have been displaced and are being assisted by family and friends,โ€ said Brenneman. The occupants were identified in a fire marshalโ€™s press release as Edward and Linda Burns.
