Prince Frederick, MD – The Lubrano family went before the Board of License Commissioners of Calvert County (Liquor Board) Thursday, June 22 and as a result the wine and spirits will flow at the newest location of Mamma Lucia restaurant. Mamma Lucia By the Bay is located on Bayside Road in Chesapeake Beach. The restaurant will be housed in a new structure built on the site where Chaney’s and later, The Crooked I were located.
Maria, Salvatore and Enrico Lubrano, along with their attorney, Thomas Axley, were before the Liquor Board to obtain a Class B “On Sale” beer, wine and liquor license. The Lubrano family also runs restaurants in Dunkirk and Prince Frederick. The Dunkirk restaurant opened almost 20 years ago.
Enrico Lubrano will be managing the new location and told the board he has completed alcohol awareness training and certification. All of the restaurant’s servers age 21 and older will also be required to obtain the training and certification.
“You do a good job,” said Liquor Board Chairman Robert Arscott.
Board member Beth Swoap made the motion to grant the liquor license in all three names. The vote was unanimous.
The Liquor Board also granted a Class D “On Sale” beer license to Brian M. Dailey of Scorpion Brewing LLC. Dailey told the board Scorpion has had “no problems” in its two years of operation as a producer and wholesaler of beer at its location on Skinners Turn Road in Owings. The brewery is open four days a week, Thursday through Sunday. Swoap noted that on the previous day Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot visited the Owings microbrewery to present a certificate of appreciation to Dailey and the other Scorpion employees.
