The forecast was not the best and yet hundreds of river lovers came out to enjoy the activities, exhibits, great food from our river, music by local artists, and to support our efforts to restore a healthy river ecosystem. Occasional rain sprinkles were hardly noticed by engaged children making monster bubbles, painting pumpkins, seining for fishes, petting a terrapin, watching an owl, getting their face painted, and paddling along the river shoreline. Delegate Deb Rey and Commissioner Tom Jarboe came for the Wade-In with Senator Bernie Fowler but with the cool temperatures and even colder water, few ventured far enough out to lose sight of their sneakers. (Official clarity reading for the day was 1.75 meters or about 5 feet 9 inches – well over this writer’s head)

The kayak raffle was drawn at the end of the day and winner Kevin McCarthy was delighted saying, “I can’t wait to learn how to do this.”

Students from the Tech Center and St. Mary’s College dazzled attendees with touch tanks, live crabs, and craft activities. The St. Maries Citty Militia was in town and provided demonstrations and a color guard for the Wade-In. More than forty local businesses and families sponsored RiverFest 2015 allowing the event to remain free and open to everyoneโ€”admission to the entire Historic St. Mary’s City Museum is free at RiverFest.

Please visit our sponsors page and support those businesses that support your St. Mary’s River. More photos can be found on our Facebook page. Please share them with your friends.
