The School Boundary Advisory Committee (SBAC) for Captain Walter Francis Duke Elementary School has been meeting to discuss redistricting proposals, which will take effect as a result of the school opening in August 2015. The SBAC will continue their work through December 2014, at which time they will make a recommendation to the Interim Superintendent of Schools. The Interim Superintendent will present a recommendation to the Board of Education of St. Mary’s County (BOE) at an information session at a regularly scheduled meeting and a separate public hearing in January 2015. The BOE will take formal action at a regularly scheduled meeting in February 2015. Pending final approval, parents/guardians of students being redistricted will receive written notification of their new school assignment in March/April 2015.
Elementary schools that are being considered as part of the redistricting proposals include: Evergreen, Green Holly, Hollywood, Leonardtown, Oakville, and Town Creek. Each school is represented by the site administrator or designee and a parent representative.
