Calvert County, MD — Three Calvert County schools will receive mini-grants from the Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, Inc. (CAASA) to help prevent drug and alcohol abuse.
Calvert Middle School will receive a grant to be used will be used toย sponsor alcohol and other drug prevention activities in the school.
Mutual Elementary Schoolย will receive funds for their โMy Anger and Meโ Program thatย assists children managing stress and developing problem solving skills.ย
Patuxent and Appeal Elementary Campus will receive assistance to create a Sensory Path. The Sensory Path will provide a safe space where students can retreat to when feeling overwhelmed with emotions.
Mini grants are awarded to activities or programs that address the problem of alcohol and other drug abuse.
The โStep By Stepโ 5K Fun Run/Walk and Super Hero Half Mile Dash on November 2 will raise funds for the Mini-grant program.
The 3.1-mile (MD 12024JS) begins and ends at the Calvert Marine Museum covering scenic Solomons on hard roads and through residential areas. No dogs or pets. Strollers allowed. Refreshments provided to all participants.
The half-mile dash is for children ages 6 and younger. Participants will run on the grassy area just beside the Calvert Marine Museum parking lot. No dogs or pets. Parents are allowed on the course with their children. Participants are encouraged
to dress in their favorite super hero costume (be sure they are safe to run in).
