Lexington Park, MD โ David Brinkley, Maryland Secretary for the Department of Budget and Management, will deliver an overview of the fiscal year 2016 (FY16) state budget, covering significant topics for the local community.
The Patuxent Partnership, in collaboration with the St. Maryโs Chamber of Commerce and the Southern Maryland Navy Alliance, will host Secretary Brinkley during a โBrown Bag,โ Sept. 29, from 12:00 to 1:30 pm at the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department Social Hall, Lexington Park.
Secretary Brinkley will present Governor Hoganโs agenda and budget, highlighting significant impacts to the southern Maryland community. Following his remarks, the audience is encouraged to ask questions.
A major segment of the FY16 budget includes funds allocated to economic and workforce development. The FY16 allowance includes $20 million for the Maryland Economic Development Assistance Authority and Fund to expand existing businesses and attract new business to priority funding areas (PFA) in Maryland. Lexington Park, Prince Frederick and Waldorf are listed as PFAs as well as other cities in the tri-county area.
To further the goal of advancing technology in Maryland, $9 million is included in the budget for research and development tax credits, and $4.9 million is set aside to commercialize research conducted at participating universities through the Maryland Innovation Initiative.
A Frederick County native, Secretary Brinkley served in the state Senate for 12 years, representing Frederick and Carroll Counties. He was minority leader and member of the Budget and Taxation Committee and served in the House of Delegates for eight years. Governor Hogan appointed Brinkley the budget secretary for the state last January.
