At 8:25 A.M. on June 30, 2011, crews from Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department Co. 2, Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad Co. 29, Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad Co. 79, St. Mary’s Advance Life Support, along with State and County Police were alerted for the report of a vehicle that had flipped over several times with unknown injuries in the area of the 27000 block of Three Notch Road by Burchmart’s Korner Carryout. Squad 2 responded from Co. 2, Ambulance 799 and 798 responded from Co. 79, and Medic 3 from SMALS. Law Enforcement arrived on scene and stated that their was one patient trapped in the vehicle. This new information caused Squad 7 from Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department Co. 7 to be dispatched, additionally Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad Co. 19 was dispatched and Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department Co. 2 EMS responded with Ambulance 27. Squad 2 arrived on scene and rapidly began extricating the patient while Lt. Colvin established the command and cancelled additional units that were not needed, requested a helicopter for a high priority transport to a trauma center, and shut-down the south bound lane of traffic. Engine 23 responded from Co. 2 to establish a landing zone for the helicopter. After removing the door from the vehicle, the patient was removed and Ambulance 799 along with Medic 3 took over patient care while awaiting for Trooper 7 to arrive. Engine 23 shut down the north bound lane in addition to the south bound lane of traffic for trooper 7 to land on Three Notch Road. After the patient was loaded into Trooper 7 and heading to the trauma center, the north bound lane was opened back up while the south bound land remained blocked for the police investigation. Fire and EMS crews worked on scene for just over an hour.

POLICE REPORT:

On Thursday, June 30, 2011 @ approximately 0823 hours, Troopers from the Leonardtown Barrack responded to the area of Rt. 235/Morganza Turner Road, Mechanicsville, St. Maryโ€™s County, Maryland for a reported serious motor vehicle accident.ย  Upon arrival, Troopers located a gold color GMC Yukon partially in the southbound lanes of Rt. 235, north of the Morganza Turner Road intersection.ย  Based on preliminary investigation and witness accounts, the Yukon had been traveling northbound on Rt. 235 when for unknown reasons it drifted from the roadway, into the grass median.ย  Once in the median, the vehicle struck a culvert/ditch, which caused the vehicle to roll over approximately five times before coming to rest.ย  The driver was seatbelted in and not ejected.ย  The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and no other vehicles/persons were involved.ย  The driver was flown from the scene by Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7 to Prince Georgeโ€™s Shock Trauma with life threatening injuries.ย  The driverโ€™s next of kin were notified of th
