Fort Washington, MD – An early morning fire in the Southern Prince Georgeโ€™s County town of Fort Washington resulted in the displacement of 30 apartment dwellers, local fire officials reported.

According to Mark Brady of the Prince Georgeโ€™s County Fire Department, the blaze which was initially reported around 8 a.m., occurred at an apartment building on Corning Avenue.ย  Brady reported occupants were rescued from a balcony while firefighters battled the flames. There was a report of someone being trapped on the third floor, however, no serious injuries were reported.

A Washington, DC television station, WTTG, reports a woman was seen by witnesses โ€œpassing kids from the third floor to the balcony.”

A total of 11 apartments were affected by the fire, which remains under investigation.
