Prince Frederick, MD –ย Crews in all three Southern Maryland counties responded to numerous reports of downed trees blocking roadways. Some of those trees knocked down power lines. Several power outages were reported. According to the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative’s outage map, the largest concentration of temporary electricity service loss occurred in the Prince Frederick area.

TheBayNet.com also received reports of high water on portions of Great Mills Road. During the storm there were also reports of motor vehicle accidents. No immediate word as to whether any have been deemed weather-related.

There was at least one report of a lightning strike in Calvert County during the height of the storm. No storm-related injuries have been reported at this time.

Just to the north of the region, the National Weather Service is reporting ย a 70-mph tornado came through Montgomery County shortly before 4 p.m.

Prince Frederick, MD – The final full day of spring is bringing with it severe, late afternoon storms that are causing damage in Southern Maryland. Calvert County authorities are reporting a tree down on German Chapel Road near Rawlings Court in Prince Frederick. Fire officials report wires are down and Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has dispatched a crew, Calvert authorities also report a possible lightning strike on Riverside Drive and a possible transformer fire in Chesapeake Ranch Estates.

In St. Mary’s County, crews are being dispatched to a tree down and on fire in Mechanicsville in the area of Budds Creek Road near Aviation Yacht Club Road. Officials in St. Mary’s also report a motor vehicle has crashed into a tree in the Hollywood area. There is also one report of a tree on top of a house at Hermanville Road and Point Lookout Road. Additionally, there are reports tree down across wires in the North Sandgates area.


Update 5:55 p.m.

A motor vehicle crash is reported on Market Drive in the area of Business Center in Mechanicsville. Avoid the area until further notice.

St. Mary’s authorities are also reporting a tree down on Spyglass Way in Lexington Park. A portion of Great Mills Road is said to be flooded and the traffic light at the intersection with Three Notch Road is not functioning.

In Calvert County trees are reported down on Adelina Road near Sixes Road in Prince Frederick and Double Oak Road and Dares Beach Road in Dares Beach.


Update 6:24 p.m.

Calvert County authorities are reporting that a vehicle has crashed into a tree on German Chapel Road in the area of Rawlings Court and Dan Bowen Road.


UPDATE 6:31 p.m.

Hughesville, MD – Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) is reporting outages in all three of the region’s counties. The largest number of outages is currently in the Prince Frederick area.
