A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for central St. Mary’s County in Southern Maryland and southeastern Calvert County until 6:15 p.m.
At 5:20 p.m. a severe thunderstorm was detected nine miles west of Leonardtown or five miles north of the Wicomico River and was moving east at 35 mph. This storm is capable of producing hail up to the size of quarters and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.
