On August 7, 2017, Jeffrey Ronald Kindle, 36 attempted to escape the St. Maryโ€™s County Detention by removing drywall and part of the metal ceiling inside the segregation pod bathroom.ย  Kindle used a piece of a metal drain to create a three-foot by two-foot hole in the ceiling.

According to charging documents, had Kindle made it through the opening, he would have had access to other portions of the facility, including the exterior wall. Kindle was charged with First and Second-Degree Escape, one count of malicious destruction of property under $1000 and one count malicious destruction of property over $1000.

Kindle is currently being held at the St. Maryโ€™s County Detention Center at the request of the Queen Anne County, MD Sheriffโ€™s Department.

On June 27, 2017, Kindle is alleged to have forced a female victim into a room at the Courtyard Inn in Chestertown, MD. Unable to get the victim into the room, Kindle drove the victim to a location on Leverage Road and dragged her into the woods; where he allegedly ripped her clothes off and sexually assaulted her. The victim ran to a friendโ€™s home and called the police.

Kindle was later found walking in the parking lot of the Chester River Medical Center and was arrested. Kindle is charged (in Queen Anneโ€™s County) with First and Second-Degree Rape, First and Second-degree assault, perverted practice, reckless endangerment, dangerous weapon with intent to injure, false imprisonment, malicious destruction of property and four other counts of sex offense.

After being arrested in Queen Anneโ€™s County and being transported to the Sheriffโ€™s Department, it was learned that Kindle is a registered sex offender in Delaware, stemming from a 2001 conviction for Fourth Degree Rape of a victim under the age of 16 and was also wanted for escape in Delaware from the Morris Community Corrections Facility.

Kindle is currently being held on a No-Bond status.
