Prince Frederick, MD – Calvert County’s primary law enforcement agency hosted an open house Saturday, Aug. 27 at its headquarters on Church Street in Prince Frederick. The many agencies the sheriff’s office personnel work with on a daily basis were among the vendors on hand for the public safety outdoor festival.
The event was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Highlights included a high noon inspection of sheriff’s department personnel by Sheriff Mike Evans. Demonstrations of local law enforcement’s K9 patrol and mountain bikes were held. And the Foundation 4 Heroes made a grand entrance, giving kids a chance to meet the superheroes.
Participating agencies included the Maryland State Police, Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP), the U.S. Coast Guard and local Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Calvert County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Calvert County Election Board, Tri-County Animal Shelter and Young Marines.
Festival activities included a dunk tank, train rides, face painting and cotton candy.
Tours of the sheriff’s office building were also conducted. Various vehicles used by the law enforcement agencies were on display, as were vessels used by the Coast Guard and NRP.
In brief remarks following the inspection, Evans thanked the citizens for their attendance and support. He noted the law enforcement professionals, tagged vehicles and equipment were all proof that “your tax dollars” are being put to good use.
