
La Plata, MD – Charles County Sheriff’s detectives are seeking the publicโs help identifying the suspects responsible for a shooting that occurred on October 16 at 3 p.m. on a dirt path near Saint Paulโs Drive and Allward Drive in Waldorf. A sketch of one of the suspects was obtained and detectives would like to hear from anyone who may have additional information regarding this case. Charles County Crime Solvers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
A preliminary investigation showed a 17-year-old male was on the path when he was approached by two suspects who demanded the victimโs bicycle. One of the suspects then pulled a gun and shot the victim in the upper leg. The suspects fled with the victim’s silver and green BMX. The victim walked back to the roadway and flagged down the driver of an empty school bus who stopped, rendered aid and notified authorities. The victim was flown to a hospital and admitted with a non-life threatening injury.
Both suspects are believed to be in their twenties. The suspect shown in the sketch is 5โ11โ to 6โ0โ with a thin build. The second suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6โ2โ with a stocky build.ย Anyone with information regarding the identities of the suspects is asked to contact Det. J. Waldorf, MD –ย A shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 6 on a path near a school in Waldorf remains under investigation. According to police, the two suspects remain at large.
Charles County Sheriffโs Office spokeswoman Diane Richardson reported Wednesday morning that the 17-year-old male victim remains in stable condition in a Washington, DC area hospital. The unidentified male was shot in the upper leg by one of the suspects. The two suspects fled the scene with the victimโs silver and green BMX bicycle.
Police reported the victim was able to walk back to the road and flag down an empty school bus. The driver rendered aid and notified authorities.
A search of the area failed to yield the two suspects. They are described as black males and one was wearing a red baseball cap.
Charles County Crime Solvers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on a dirt path near St. Pauls Drive and Allward Drive. Students at nearby Eva Turner Elementary School were detained at the school for an additional 30 minutes before being released.
Charles County Public Schools spokeswoman Shelly Mackey told The BayNet the school was not on lockdown, but rather a status called โshelter-in-place.โ Mackey stated โitโs a precautionary measure whenever thereโs a police investigation near a school.โ Students and staff are free to move about the building but are not allowed to leave.

Oct. 6, 4 p.m.--The CCSO is investigating a shooting that occurred on a bike path near St. Paul’s Drive in Waldorf. Preliminary information: This appears to be connected to a robbery. Victim is a teenaged male with a gunshot wound to the leg. Two suspects: black males, one possibly with a red baseball cap. Officers are in the area and pursuing leads.
