On Dec. 28 at 4:10 p.m., officers responded to Popes Creek Road near Dewberry Drive in Newburg for the report of shots fired.
Investigation revealed the victim was driving up his driveway when he observed the suspect, Robert “Bobby” Hayden, 38 of Newburg, inside a car pointing a shotgun at him. The victim put his car in reverse and started backing up when he heard a gun shot and saw Hayden leaving at a high rate of speed.
Sheriff’s officers responded to the scene and located the suspect at his house. Officers also recovered a 12 gauge shotgun shell. Officers learned the victim and suspect, who are related, have had an ongoing dispute.
Hayden was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and reckless endangerment. Officer A. Sullivan investigated.
