Joseph Allen Woodland, age 52, of Mechanicsville got into an argument with his brother over missing tools on Jan. 27. What began as a squabble between family members ended with Woodland being arrested and charged with assault.

Woodland and his brother had both been consuming alcohol when they began to argue over missing tools.

The argument escalated when Woodland grabbed the victim around the neck with one hand and began swinging a kitchen knife with the other.

The victim was forced between two pieces of furniture and was cut on the side of his back with the knife that Woodland was wielding.

The victim grabbed a pole to hold Woodland back and called 9 1 1.

The victim refused medical treatment.

Woodland was arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center where he was charged with first and second degree assault.
