Stevie Rae Koncen is not your everyday ordinary 16-year-old girl. Not only does this accomplished vocalist appear regularly singing the National Anthem at Maryland International Raceway, she hops into her junior dragster and roars down MIR’s track, frequently winning.

When Stevie was asked by TheBAYNET.com how long she has been racing she smiled and replied, “My dad started bringing me to the track when I was 2 months old and I’ve been riding dirt bikes and four wheelers my whole life. But, I’ve been in competitive racing for seven years.” 

Stevie admits that her racing experience has been limited to junior dragsters but that next year she is moving up to a full-sized drag car and hopes to continue her winning ways against the tougher competition.

“Everyday at the track is a good experience, but winning is the best,’ said the enthusiastic youth. “My worst experience on the track was blowing an engine. It was terrible!” Part of the problem, she admits, is coming up with enough money to replace the engine.

Stevie not only races her cars, but is her own mechanic to boot. I’m always working on not only my own car, but helping with my dad’s too. I love getting my hands dirty!”

Musically, Stevie has been ranked in the top four in Charles County Public Schools since her ninth grade year. “This year I was second in the Tri-County and have, in the past been as high as first in the District competition as both a soloist and with an ensemble.


When asked how long she had been singing, Stevie laughed and said, since birth.”

After high school, Stevie plans to attend hair school, and on my own time while working to be a recording artist.

However, at 16, her number one focus right now is her brand new 1991 Camaro Z28 convertible. “I named her Sexy Sadie after the Beatles song. She has a few dings and scratches but she’s my pride and joy,” beamed the teen.


It is for sure that the boys had better not challenge her in her new car, Stevie can not only drive the doors off any car, but can fix it when it breaks.
