The 2015 Southern Maryland Athletic Conference (SMAC) Basketball regular season wrapped up last night, and there are a few days before playoffs begin.
On the boyโs side of SMAC, North Point finished perfect in the conference with a 13-0 record. They were led in scoring by junior center Malik Brown, with 18.9 points per game. Brown also led the Eagles in rebounding with 10.3 per game. He averaged a double double throughout the season.
Westlake finished a game behind them with a mark of 12-1. Their only blemish was on Jan. 21, when they fell to North Point by a score of 79-74. Westlake was led in scoring by senior guard Omar Alston with 17.9 points per game, as well as 11.3 rebounds per game.
La Plata finished in third with a SMAC record of 11-2. They lost to North Point, and Westlake. La Plata was led in scoring by senior forward Jordan Oakley with 19.2 points per game. Oakley also led his team in rebounding with 9.1 rebounds per game.
The conference scoring champion was junior guard Darus Maddox from Patuxent, who put up an average of 24.3 points per game.
On the girls side, Westlake was the SMAC champion finishing 13-0 in conference play. The Lady Wolverines were led in scoring by senior guard Brianna Hardee, who finished the season with 20.9 points per game.
Great Mills finished in second with a record of 11-2. Their two losses came at the hands of Westlake, and Northern. They were led in scoring by senior guard India King, who had 12.5 points per game.
Northern finished in third place with a SMAC record of 10-3, with losses to Westlake, North Point, and Thomas Stone. The Lady Patriots were led in scoring by junior forward Gina Seifert, who had 12.2 points per game.
The scoring champion for the conference was junior forward Amber Conyers, who had 21.0 points per game.
