Crossland High School (PG County)-6 @ La Plata-48
La Plata won their first game of the season against out of conference opponent Crossland High School from Temple Hills, MD. The Warriors rushed for 208 yards, averaging 8 yards per carry, and threw for 187 yards. Starting the game at quarterback for the Warriors was senior Jonathan (JT) Phillips who threw for a touchdown in the first quarter but was pulled after throwing an interception. Replacing Phillips was sophomore Daโmani Brown who was 8 for 12 on his passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns.
The Warriors face Chopticon away at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7. The Braves are coming off of a 26-14 loss to Oxon Hill and are looking to bounce back.
Leonardtown-0 @ Lackey-56
The Lackey Chargers dominated Leonardtown last Friday, posting 546 yards rushing and 72 yards through the air. A ridiculous stat line from this blowout win is 187 yards rushing on two carries by senior Linn Jordan. Thatโs an average of 93.5 yards per carry with a long of 97 yards and one touchdown. Leonardtown couldnโt get anything going with only 60 rushing yards and 22 passing.
Lackey plays at Huntingtown this week Friday at 7 p.m. Huntingtown beat in county rival Patuxent last week and hopes to upset the very talented Chargers this one.
North Point-17ย @ Old Mill-15
Last year when Old Mill played at North Point, the home team forced their will on the out of conference visitors, winning the contest 42-0. This year with North Point on the road, Old Mill gave the Eagles a little bit of a scare, taking the lead in the fourth quarter after a two-point conversion, leading 15-14. North Point was able to win the game on a 4th quarter field goal by senior Evan Patterson. Old Mill had an opportunity to win with a drive at the end of the game but was thwarted on fourth down by senior Timothy Barnes who secured the win with a sack. North Point rushed for 299 yards and passed for 104.
North Point plays at home against a confident Westlake team on Friday at 7 p.m for thebaynetโs SMAC Game of the Week.
Friendly Senior-0ย @ Westlake-38
Westlake took on Friendly Senior from Fort Washington, MD at home last week. The Wolverines were able to rack up 19 points in the first quarter and 13 in the second. Senior quarterback Jalon Spencer lead the passing attack, racking up 131 of the Wolverines 142 passing yards and throwing for two touchdowns with no interceptions. Westlake also ran for 187 yards and three rushing touchdowns. Defensively, senior cornerback Devin Williams recorded two picks and even took one to the house.
This week Westlake looks to upset the 1-0 North Point Eagles in a David versus Goliath 2A against 4A matchup. The game will be played at North Point with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
McDonough-0ย @ Eastern Tech-23
McDonough traveled up to Baltimore this past weekend and was blown out by Eastern Tech. The Rams went 2-8 last year with one of their wins coming from a 24-22 win over Tech. No stats have been posted from the game as of the writing of this article.
McDonough travels to St. Charles on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. to faceoff against a confident Spartans team who just upset Thomas Stone this past week.
St. Charles-30ย @ Thomas Stone-26
The St. Charles Spartans traveled into the den of a hungry Cougars team and were able to walk away with a victory. In a back and forth game where Stone lead 24-26 in the fourth quarter until Spartans senior quarterback Jevon Hamilton snuck the ball into the end zone. The 11-yard touchdown run gave St. Charles the lead with 2 minutes and 17 seconds left on the clock. Following a few defensive stops, the Spartans walked away victorious for the first time in the programโs young history. Stone looked to improve upon its 8-3 record from last year and will attempt to get back on track this season.
St. Charles hosts Mcdonough who the Spartans have done particularly well against and Stone travels to face a Great Mills team who was scoreless against Suitland last week.
