The Patuxent Small Craft Guild (PSCG) members recently finished building a traditional 16-foot cedar-planked crabbing skiff at the Calvert Marine Museum. The boat was based on a design by David Lawrence, a retired boat builder in St. Maryโ€™s County.

The guild members comprised of museum volunteers maintain the museumโ€™s fleet of small watercraft, under the direction of Boatwright, George Surgent, They build, restore, sail and row traditional craft indigenous to the region.ย  Visit the Guild building from 8:30 a.m. โ€“ 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays and see these enthusiasts hard at work. The public is invited to sign up and build your own 16-foot wooden canoe in two days! Call George Surgent at 410-586-2700 or email gsurgent@comcast.net.

The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Museum members and children under 5 are always admitted free.
