Leonardtown, MD- On Wed. Jan. 16, the St. Maryโ€™s County Board of Education (BOE) recognized both the Patuxent Partnership and Northrop Grumman for their โ€œgenerousโ€ donation of robots to the elementary schools in St. Maryโ€™s County.

โ€œWe were gifted about $15,000 in robots from the Wonder Workshop,โ€ stated Supervisor of Instruction Denise Mandis who later described the โ€œDashโ€ and โ€œDotโ€ robots as โ€œcute little robots. Kindergarteners can use them and they can go up to students in fifth grade as well.โ€ Each elementary school in the county received โ€œtwo Dash robots, two Dot robots, and supplementary materials.โ€ The robots help teach students how to code and they โ€œsupport the STEM for All initiative.โ€ Mandis concluded the recognition by expressing, โ€œthe innovation and creativity that these robots allow our students to invest are truly amazing.โ€

Bonnie Green, Patuxent Partnership executive director, and Scott Stewart, corporate lead executive for Northrop Grumman at PAX, were present to accept the recognition. The Patuxent Partnership is a non-profit that works to โ€œadvance education through STEM-based initiatives.โ€

The organization worked with Northrop Grumman and the school system to facilitate the donation. โ€œItโ€™s certainly a pleasure to be able to work for a company that values giving resources to the future of America and we do it through STEM programs,โ€ stated Stewart who concluded the acceptance stating that the โ€œhead startโ€ the students are getting is โ€œexciting to be a part ofโ€ for the company.

The next BOE meeting will take place Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. For more information, the meetingโ€™s live stream is available on the St. Maryโ€™s County Public Schools Youtube.
