Incoming students at St. Mary’s College of Maryland will participate in service projects across the county today.
One hundred new students and 70 student leaders will role up their sleeves and join in Seahawk Service Saturday as part of the orientation experience. Service projects and locations include:
•Maintenance of guest rooms and grounds at Greenwell State Park
•Truck cleaning at the Ridge Volunteer Fire Department
•Roadside cleanup at Mattapany Road
•Cleanup of the college waterfront on state Route 5
•Trail maintenance at Sotterley Plantation
•Farm gardening and outdoor maintenance at Summerseat
•Gardening and mulching at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church
•Cleanup at Trinity Church
•Fence construction and outdoor tasks at St. John’s Museum site in Historic St. Mary’s City.
Service activities are designed to involve incoming students in the community as an introduction to the SMCM culture of civic engagement and social responsibility.
